Tour Report - North Shore Hawaii

November 2005 - February 2006

Srila Narayana Maharaja is currently on the North Shore in Oahu, Hawaii. He has been there for the past month and half, residing at the house of Vrndavana dasa and engaged in translation work. From January 25th -February 1st he will go to the big island for a one-week Hari-katha Festival.

Srila Narayana Maharaja's daily schedule below has been submitted by Vrndavana dasa:

The following is an outline of his daily schedule:
3:00 AM – waking for Manglacarana (prayers to invoke auspiciousness). Some of the prayers he chants:
Jaya Dhvani, Sri Guru Vandanam, Sri Prabhupada Vandanam, Sri Paratpara Guru vandanam, Sri Paramesthi Guru Vandanam, Guru Parampara vandanam.

After this he chants astakams like:
Sri Guruvastakam, Sad-Gosvami Astakam, Nityanandastakam, Radhikastakam, Nanda-Nandanastakam, Radha-Kripa-Kataksa-Stava-Raja, Sri Namastakam and Sri Govardhanastakam.

He then recites some verses glorifying the holy name, and then he chants japa and then anika (gayatri). After that he performs Tulsi-puja and offers flowers and prayers to the Deities on his altar.

By then it is 6:20 am., and at that time we drive a short distance to the park for a morning walk. He is usually very concentrated on His japa, and speaks very little if at all. When we finish walking, we sit for a few minutes. Some question and answers may come at that time.

At about 7:30 we return to the house for breakfast, and at that time he instructs Vrinda didi, Tungavidya didi, Jiva-priya dasa brahmacari and Giridari dasa brahmacari on some things he wants done that day.

Then he begins writing: At present he is working on his translations and commentaries of Madhurya Kadambini, and Rasa-panchadhyayee (the five chapters in the tenth canto Srimad Bhagavatam on the subject of Lord Sri Krsna's pastimes with the young gopis of Vrndavana). After that he works on Sri Damodarastakam. At noon time, if the weather is favorable, he takes a short dip in the ocean.

Now it is time for noontime anika (gayatri mantras), lunch Prasad, and a short nap afterward.
He then resumes his writing and continues that until 6:00 - 6:30. Then he again chants japa, anika and evening prayers, engages in some reading, then takes some light prasadam and then takes rest.

Once a week at around 11am, he gives a short class in Hindi, by telephone, to the devotees in Houston. He also gives a short class over the internet on Sunday evenings at 5:00pm.
